Chevrolet Repair: 98 BLAZER TRANSMISION, pressure gage, autohelp

Question
I HOPE YOU CAN HELP ME, I HAVE A 98 BLAZER 2W/D. I RECENTLY REPLACED THE REAR END IN IT BECAUSE THE PINION GEAR WAS WIPED. AFTER INSTALLING IT I TOOK IT FOR A TEST RUN AND THE VEHICLE FEELS LIKE THE BRAKES ARE DRAGING. AFTER CHECKING AND RECHECKING THE BRAKES AND ALL THE HARDWARE I DETERMINED THAT THE PROBLEM IS IN THE TRANS.IT ONLY FEELS LIKE IT DRAGS WHEN IT IS IN OVERDRIVE. WHEN YOU SHIFT IT INTO DRIVE IT GOES GREAT. WHEN YOU SHIFT INTO OVERDRIVE IT FEELS LIKE YOU ARE PRESSING THE BRAKES. IS IT POSSABLE THAT THE TOURQE CONVERTER IS GOING BAD OR A BAD ELETRICAL PROBLEM. THERE ARE NO CHECK LIGHTS ON AND EVERYTHING SEEMS GOOD BUT OVERDRIVE. THE FLUID IS GREAT AND NOT RUNNING HOT. ANY IDEAS ON HOW TO FIGURE THIS ONE OUT? HELP..DAN THOMAS

Answer
Without actually driving the vehicle and having a pressure gage on to monitor the overdrive pressure it is difficult to provide an accurate diagnosis.

The only possibilities that come to mind are a fault in the PWM solenoid, TCC solenoid, possible converter stator problem.

Are you sURE you are getting into overdrive ?.

TEST:

While in overdrive, maintain your speed and using your LEFT foot lightly apply the brake pedal just enough to light the stop light sand you should feel a BUMP in the trans and the RPM's will increase which tells you that the overdrive has just disengaged.

If you release the brake pedal withina second or 2 you should feel anothe bump and the rpm's will decrease of which tells you that the overdrive has reingaged.

Does it.

There is also a possibility that the rear axle pinion is to TIGHT thus causing excessive effort to turn the ring and pinion.
