Chevrolet Repair: Speedometer, chevy silverado truck, chevy silverado

Question
I have a 2003 chevy silverado truck.  The speedometer is stuck pointing down.  I was told by the dealer they would have to replace the whole instrument cluster.  Is there any way I could repair the speedometer without replacing the whole instrument cluster?

Answer
Without doing any tests to determine if the problem is with the transmission speed sensor OR the speedometer cluster I can't really tell you IF the problem is in the cluster.

If it IS in the cluster you will have to replace it and or have it sent out for repair.
