Chevrolet Repair: Chevy V6 oil pressure and temeprature., chevy astro, chevy v6

Question
Hi !

I own my second Chevy Astro with 4,3L engine.
First one was an 1988 2WD and now I have an 1994 2WD. Both one have shown the same problem, oilpressure. I run 15-40 oil (to compensate for milage wear)and I use electric engine heater at winters (Swedish winters are Alaska style.....)

At winter it shows aprox. 40 PSI and temperature rise to 200 F. At summer pressure drops (with warm engine)to less than 20 PSI when ideling in drive gear. If I neutral it goes up but not to 40 PSI, more likely to 30 PSI. If I climb hills etc. and turn off for a short stop and then starts again it has "afterboiled" and reads out as 220-240 F but it goes down to say 210 F fast, this is perhaps normal what do I know. I have not checked for missreadings in sensors

Q. Does this indicate serious troubles ?!

Q. What is normal dynamic readings (pressure and temp)for an engine with 16000 european miles. (four turns around the planet) ?!

Q. My first Astro blew the engine on a second....
My guess is that I blew a pistonshaft as it rumbled like a samba orcestra. I never went to the Coroner to find out. Is this someting to expect to happen again judged from these readings ?!

Regards,
Johnnie

Answer
All these readings sound just fine to me with that kind of mileage. The SLIGHTLY lower than normal oil pressure when the engine is at normal operating temp is due to bearing wear and I would not be concerned about it with this kind of mileage.

As to the engine temp readings, They are just FINE. The engine normally operates at 220 degrees anyway.
