Chevrolet Repair: Serp belt problem, gm service manuals, crank pulley

Question
Ok I'm working on my Mom's 89 K1500 305 auto. Has P/S, A/C, no Air pump. Not sure if this has anything to do with it but Recently replaced the A/C compressor due to bearing going out. My problem is that the belt on the water/fan pully is riding to far forward and is hitting the lip and damaging the belt. SO I have looked over as to why that is and didn't see anything bent or ? I tried to shim that pulley out but when I started it back up that pulley was fin but the belt strated to come off the crank pulley? I am at a loss. I have never come across anything like this and I have a set of 89 GM service manuals for it and doesn't have any info to help me out?
Any suggestions, insight, or ? whould really help me out!
THanks, Seth

Answer
If the belt was OK before you replaced the compressor then it is most likely that you do not have the compressor aligned properly with the other components and or IF you removed any other components that they to are mis-aligned.

Are you SURE your putting the belt on correctly.

What BOOK are you using ?.
