I BOUGHT A 1980 CHEVY 4X4 I AM BUILDING A OFFROAD/MUDDIN TRUCK BUT FIRST I HAVE TO GET IT TO START I HAVE GOT A NEW BAT,ALTERNATOR,IGNITION LOCK AND SWITCH HAS GOOD STARTER, NEW SYLINOID. i CANT FIGUROUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS PLEASE HELP.

Check for spark, and fuel delivery. Then go from there.

WELL IF I HOT WIRE IT IT STARTS RIGHT UP IT JUST WONT LET ME USE THE KEY TO START IT?

Hi Michael,
You said you got a new lock and switch...did you get the actual ignition switch, which is usually down on the steering column?

There is a bulkhead connector where all the wires pass through the firewall. I have seen bad connections there.

And I don't know if that one has an ign fuse, but worth a check.
