Chevrolet Repair: A/C, freon, inline filter

Question
I recently replaced the a/c compressor.  After changing the compressor I went to recharge the system.  I started adding the freon and the compressor came on and shut off as the freon was being added.  Then the freon quite charging.  I have a friend who is a home a/c repair man and he told me that there was no freon in the system just pressurized air.  We tried to empty the system and add more freon but the system will only fill up with pressurized air.  The compressor is new and wont come on until there is freon.  What is the problem with the system is the compressor bad or do I need to vaccum out the system and recharge the system.

Answer
Hi Michael, I need to know what kind of car you have !! If the compressor went bad then there is most likely metal in the system! This metal will plug the orifice in the high side line. You will need to install a inline filter and new orifice if this has happened.

Hope this helps
