Chevrolet Repair: 1998 Chevy Express 1500 Van: Rear Brakes, rear brakes, chevy express

Question
1998 Chevy Express 1500 Conversion Van.  Two weeks ago, I needed the back brakes replace due to normal wear.  Midas replaced the rear brakes, but I believe they have not adjusted the rear brakes correctly.  Here is the situation:  When driving up to a stop sign and applying the brakes on full, to come to a complete stop, the van comes to a stop but  the it rocks back and forth once when letting up on the brake pedel.  It felt like a shimmer and you do here the brakes being applied and released. I took the van back to Midas and they re-adjusted them, I believe to specifications.  When testing driving it home, the shimmer is now more prevelent than before.  Both Midas and another local repair shop have road tested and inspected the brakes and have both indepently said the brakes are perfect!  Midas has offered to tear apart the rear brakes, if we are willing to drop it off for a full day.  I'm not sure I trust their expertise at this point.  My gut thinks this problem is still with the rear brakes but your experience may say otherwise.  Appreciate your thoughts.

Answer
Hi Jim, I would like to give you my opinion on this but without test driving the van I can't. If the brakes are pulsating the problem could be that the parking brake wasn't backed off before adjusting the brakes. This could also cause the drums to become out of round. I would take it back and tell them to install a different brand of brake shoes and recut the drums.

Hope this helps
