Chevrolet Repair: Hi, I have a 1987 Dodge and..., side exhaust manifold, salvage yard

Question
Hi,
I have a 1987 Dodge and it is in excellent shape (bought it new and it has only 87000 miles). But I'm selling it soon and moving on. I just brought it in as I heard exhaust rattling. They found a broken diverter valve-recommend replacing it and corresponding clamps, hangers. The total bill-over $500. I don't want to put that much more into the vehicle. It still runs great except for the slight rattle. Is their any danger or problem with me operating it for a few more months that way, or in your opinion, should I spend the money for the repair? Thanks.

Answer
Hi Dana,
Save your money.
You can find a used diverter valve at a salvage yard and change it yourself if you want.

Normally, the rattling in the exhaust in older trucks was the heat riser valve in the right side exhaust manifold, but they can rattle for years without needing replaced.
