Chevrolet Repair: noisy top end, oil additive, excellent care

i have a 2002 LS siverado, 4.8 , 4sp auto, i bought this truck 4 months ago. have only noticed this problem in the last 2 weeks.  the first notice was when the truck had been sitting for 3 days, when i cranked it, i heard the top end rattling a bit. didnt think much of it but it has now progressed to making a little noise on start-up every day. the motor has 40,000 miles on it and is otherwise a perfect vehicle with excellent care being taken by the first owner. it was serviced when i bought it, had a/c brand oil filter. i serviced it again at 2900 miles. now has fram filter on it. any suggestions, ?

As long as your using the CORRERCT oil filter for the vehicle, the brand name makes no difference.

There is a possibility that the previous owner had this problem and was using heavier oil in the engine in order to quiet the engine noise that was present when he had it, Thus the reason that he traded it in.

You can try using a heavier weight engine oil or try some type of additive from a local parts store such as STP oil additive or similar product.
