Chevrolet Repair: Cold start on 1999 Tahoe, chevy tahoe, fuel shortage

Question
Just recently my 1999 chevy tahoe 4x4 has had a problem starting.  It takes about two turns of the key before it starts.  Once it has started it runs great.  I can hear the fuel pump when I turn the key to start it and when I turn it off.  I have not done any kind of repair to the vehicle.

Thanks

Answer
Hello Phillip,
Fuel pressure could be a problem, but spark could also be lacking. If it hasn't had a tuneup, that might be the direction to look.
I would connect a fuel pressure tester to it, and see if the pressure is up to specs. A dirty filter could be the cause, but I would expect low power, and possibly stumbling if fuel shortage were the cause, so plugs and wires is a more likely cause.

Are you sure it is the fuel pump you hear, or the A/C air door motors resetting?

The fuel pump is in the tank. I wouldn't expect it to run but just a second after the engine is shut off.
