Chevrolet Repair: backup light switch, floor shift, lever assembly

Question
1988 3/4 Ton Suburban backup lights do no go off, could it be the switch?  If so, where is it located and how do I check it and/or replace it? Is it a parts store item or dealer?

Answer
In most cases it is the switch that is stuck. On automatic transmission vehicles that have the shift lever on the steering column the switch is usually located mounted on the steering column under the dash. Some have them mounted on the transmission and some have them mounted at the gear shift lever assembly if it is a floor shift.

Depending upon your transmission type AUTO or STANDARD and on the steering COLUMN or a FLOOR SHIFT determines WHERE the switch is located.

Go to any parts store and they most likely will have the switch. Once you have the switch, contact me at:

so I can help you install it and adjust it if it is necessary.
