Chevrolet Repair: HEATER CONTROLS, service manuals, diagnostic tests

Question
I have a 2002 S-10 pickup that the heater controls have quit working. The knob turns but the airflow does not change to the selected position so I cannot choose defrost or floor. The fan runs fine, just no way to direct airflow. Is there anything I can check to correct this. My local dealer wants 100.00 just to look at it. Thank you.

Answer
Unless you have access to the manufacturer's service manuals in order to do the diagnostic tests required, You would only be guessing at what the problem could be.

There are numerous possible faults:

1. loss of vacuum to the vacuum operated motor(s).

2. A fault in the knob.

3. A control module fault.
