Chevrolet Repair: Start up, chev 350, plug holes

Question
Mark,
I have a older (70's) chev 350 I'm getting to start after over a year of sitting. I'm going to change the oil first and then remove the distributor to prime the oil pump before start up. Anything else you think I should do to prevent any possible damage? I was thinking some(not much) oil through the spark plug holes and removing the valve covers to shoot some oil on the rockers. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks, Jim

Answer
Hello Jim, I don't know if I would go through all that work to fire this up. I would just remove the coil wire or power to the coil and crank the engine over to build up oil pressure. I'm sure that a couple of 20 second cranks will put oil where it needs to be. Yes I would change the oil first.
