Chevrolet Repair: fuel pump, electric fuel pump, pressure valve

Question
I have a 2001 silerado 1500 reg. cab 2wd. When I try to start my truck it sounds like it is out of gas. I checked the pressure valve going into the top of the motor and just a few drops of fuel came out where as if I am not mistaken it should spray fuel out, so I beleive that my fuel pump is out, what i was wondering is if there are any more possibilities for the problem and if so what and how to check for them. Thanks

Answer
using someone to help you:

1. remove the gas cap at the fuel tank.

2. Listen at the gas cap opening.

3. have your helper turn the ignition switch to the ON position ONLY, Do NOT crank the engine to try and start it.

4. When the ignition key is in the ON position, You should hear the electric fuel pump in the fuel tank run for ONLY 2 seconds and then stop.

DOES IT ?. let me know as in 80 % of most cases if it does NOT run for the 2 seconds the fuel pump has failed and will require replacement of which is a very common component that fails quite often.
