Hi Van,
I forgot to mention Van that I did use a gas line antifreeze or water absorber along with octane booster.Any other thoughts come to mind?

Hi Gary,
You might try just turning the key to run for a few seconds before cranking it. Then off, and shortly later, back to run. Then crank it.

You should hear the fuel pump in the tank run for about three seconds at each of those cycles. Then, if it starts, the problem may be that the fuel is draining back into the fuel tank out of the lines.
I would ecpect it to pick up quickly, and start, but that is a possibility.
I can't get to the orriginal question, but I assume you have checked for spark?

Van

Hi Van,

Yes I have spark.Replaced the fuel filter yesterday. I can hear the fuel pump before starting and after.I still need to prime it with starting fluid. I am trying to avoid spending big $$$. Some said fuel injector problem. That job they said (in NY) is $300 to $400. Yet another one said o2 sensors. At this point I'm lost.Keeping in mind I have 148k miles I guess it could be the timing chain too. Too many vairables for me.What do you think? Thanks Gary

Answer
Hi Gary,
Really, I would want to check the fuel pressure, at the engine.
If it is throttle body injection, it should have 13PSI or so.
If it is MPFI, it should have about 45 I believe.
I'm wondering if the ignition switch could be the problem.
Using a test light, the injectors should have battery voltage on one of the wires when the switch is in run. Make sure that voltage doesn't dissappear during cranking.
That would explain it starting with the prime, and then running with the key back in run.
