Chevrolet Repair: Electrical system, catalytic convertor, chevy impala

Question
My car just stops and every thing goes out: the lights; the engine; this usually happens when I.m driving at high speeds 50-70 mph. I stomp on the gas pedal and the last time this happen it engine came back on. I have had the catalytic convertor replaced and spark plugs and wires replaced (tune up) and this problem continues. I believe it is the electrical system or brain box please help. The car is a 2001 chevy impala.  can I replace the brain box and what is it called?

Answer
Hello Aurelia,
I doubt it is the ECM(brain).
It wouldn't cause the lights to go out.
I think you have a loose connection.
Check the battery cables, starter connection, and the connector through the firewall.
Remove the battery connections, and clean the area where the battery and cable metal parts touch.
