Chevrolet Repair: Chevy cavalier 97 problems, chevy cavalier, front wheel drive

Question
I've been driving my cavvy 97 rs 2.2 for a couple of years now and over the last year it's started making a loud noise possibly from the axel. A friend told me it's probably a bad ball bearing. Anyway can you help ? Could I replace it myself and is it that bad of a problem? It's gotten louder over time and I didn't know if it'd blow up or something one day, heh.

Answer
Hi John,
I believe that is front wheel drive, correct?
If so, and the noise is from the rear wheel, you should be able to change it yourself without a lot of problem.
But the front bearings, on front wheel drive, are something you probably don't want to tackle in the driveway.
