Chevrolet Repair: power steering, chev tahoe, wheel position

Question
I have a 98 Chev Tahoe that has the speed sensitive or variable orifice power steering on it. Lately I have noticed that it appears to be very sensitive. When driving down the highway and going on an off ramp or other gradual turn it seems normal when turning the wheel about 2-3 degrees but then suddenly a slight amount more feels like you suddenly moved the wheel about 10 degrees.

Could something be plugged? Is there any additive you can run through to reduce deposits? I was considering Seafoam since it works wonders on everything else...

Is there a way to power bleed new clean fluid through the system if that would help?

I can't imagine that after only about 140k miles the pump is shot. Is there any way to tell if that is it?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Answer
Hi Chris, There is a steering wheel position sensor at the base of the steering column that needs to be replaced. To replace this part you remove the bolt from the steering shaft and slide the lower shaft off the column. Now you remove the sensor and install the new one.

Hope this helps
