Chevrolet Repair: heater core replacement, heater core replacement, heater assembly

Question
Need to replace a heater core on an 89 Chev. 2500 pickup.  Hoow hard is this going to be? This will be my first attempt at a heater.

Answer
Hello Willis,
If there is room between the bottom of the heater housing and the floor, near the right side of the hump, and you see some screws going straight up through a access cover, then I understand it can be removed quite easily. One screw is kinda hard to get to, but the cover is removed, a retainer is removed, and the heater core comes straight down with a couple little hoses. I haven't done one like that, but we have discussed it at legnth in a forum I spend time in.
I have done an 88 where there is absolutely no room between the heater housing and the floor, and no acess cover, and the complete heater assembly needs to be removed, including draining the A/C system.
You can go to that forum, which is loaded with great info, and is free. I will send the link.
But your answer is dependent on weather there is that cover and room.
Search for heater, in the appropriate vehicle area.

There is another forum for GM's at www.gmforums.com/

Both are good, and free.

Good luck,
