Chevrolet Repair: 01 silverado passenger side power window, chevy silverado, handy man

Question
My passenger side power window has come off its tracking. It started by not working at all and now it just drops down, as if nothing is holding it up. I can manually lift or lower it. I can hear the power window motor working but nothing happens to the window. My questions are, what could have happen and how to repair it? Could it be something the average handy man can handle?
I have removed many different door panels before in order to install speakers, but I can recall being restricted to the window because of the door frame. Will this be the case with an '01 chevy silverado? Any advice will be appreciated, I would like to know what I am getting into before I bite off to much. Or should I just take it in?
Thanks,
Ray

Answer
The ONLY way to know for sure what is broke is to remove the door panel and have a physical look.

It may be only a simple broken drive tape or an easily replaced window motor that the gaer has come loose and what your hearing is just the motor spinning.

Pull off the panel and LOOK.

Once you get the panel OFF and are not sure of what you have, tkae some pictures and e-mail them to me at:

and I will have a look and tell you what you need to do.
