1990 c1500 5.7L TBI timing @ 4deg.
while driving it began to want to stall.it would coast ok, but when i touched the gas pedal it would try to stall.after about a minute it would begin to run good again.i replaced the spark plugs (gapped to .035),wires,cap and rotor, fuel filter, iac valve, checked the ignition coil per Haynes manual and it checked ok,ignition module was checked at auto zone they said it was ok.it ran good for about a week, now it wont run.it starts but quickly dies.it begins to shake then lets out smoke or mist from the TBI. also has a strong gas odor after it lets out smoke.while driving on the freeway i tried to put the cruise control on but it began to hesitate also gave me a check engine light but didnt come back after truck was turned off.trouble codes read are 32,33,34,42,44, but i dont know if these caused a problem or not, some may be old.
Answer -
Clear the codes from the computer and redrive the vehicle until the check engine light illuminates and then check for codes.

You need to determine if your fault is FUEL or IGNITION before we can proceed.

Let me know.
well the truck does not start.i checked fuel pressure today, it checked 11psi. with ignition key off per haynes manual.with key on it checked 11psi. but quickly dropped.im begging to suspect a faulty distributor.what you think

FIRST thing to do id TRASH that useless CHILTONS manual as it is the most mis-informative, Mis-leading generic piece of useless material that has ever been printed, In my opinion.

These GENERIC books get people into more trouble than what they started out with.

Have you determined if your problem is FUEL or IGNITION fault ?.

I don't have a 1990 chevy Truck book so I can't tell you for sure if 11 lbs of fuel pressure is correct or NOT.

The fuel pressure should NOT drop off rapidly. This is a sign of either a faulty fuel pressure regualtor, Leaking fuel injectors, faulty fuel pump check valve or an external fuel leak.

Locate the fuel pump relay and you will see a single female electrical connector sticking out or taped to the electrical harness, This IS your fuel pump TEST LEAD. Attach a test light to it and when you turn ON the ignition switch the test light will illuminate for 2 seconds and then go OUT. This IS normal.

Once you have loacted this TEST LEAD, take a 10 AMP FUSED jumper wire from the battery positive wire and attach it to this TESTLEAD. This will acuse the fuel pump to run ALL THE TIME. Once you get the fuel pump to run ALL THE TIME, See IF the vehicle will start and watch your fuel pressure.

Are you sure your have ignition to the spark plugs ?.

Let me know.
well it started after i connected the 12v to the test lead.but i didnt connect the pressure tester because it was late, but this morning i connected the tester and it should no pressure and it wouldnt run.
these are the code meanings;
32-egr failure
33-MAP signal voltage high
34-MAP signal voltage low
42-ignition control circuit
44-lean exhaust

Answer
Reconnect the FUSED jumper to the tset lead and go back to the fuel tank and listen for the pump to be running ALL the time.

If you can't hear the pump running you either have a bad pump or a faulty circuit back to the pump.

If the fuel pump runs and you have 11 lbs of pressure and you HAVE ignition to the spark plugs it should run.

CLEAR the codes from the computer unril we get it running then recheck for codes.
