Chevrolet Repair: Top cover on steering column, key switch, steering wheel

Question
I have a 1996 Chevy P.U. a small wire on the back of the turn signal controler, I have taken off the bottom part of the steering column but I cant get the top off. it looks like you have to pull out the key switch, My head lights do not work because of the wire not attached, it has to be soildered back

Answer
If you climb under the dash and unbolt the bracket that secures the steering column to the dash framework, You can usually lift up the top cover enough to access the wire.

IF you have to remove the key switch this involves removing the steering wheel air bag (if applicable to your vehicle), The steering wheel and and turn signal assembly of which requires SPECIAL TOOLS.

The air bag requires a SPECIFIC procedure in order to de-activate the air bag system and disconnecting the vehicles battery will NOT de-activate the air bag system.
