Chevrolet Repair: hesitation, poor acceleration, throttle position sensor, vacuum hoses

Question
1997 Chevrolet K1500 5.7L, poor acceleration, hesitation, skipping under a load.  Fuel pump was replaced less than year along with filter, replaced wires and plugs.  Any ideas?

Answer
Hello Brian,
If the service engine light is on, you should read the stored codes, and follow recommendations for them.
If no light, I would first connect a fuel pressure tester where I can see it while driving, and then go for a ride. If the pressure drops, there may be a hole in the hose inside the tank where the pump connects to the line. There are other supply possibilities also, but that direction will all be decided by the pressure test.
Assuming pressure is correct, the throttle position sensor would be the first thing to check, followed by the EGR valve to make sure it isn't opening or stuck.
Also check the vacuum hoses and PCV valve.
It could be ignition related, but eliminate the fuel first.
