Chevrolet Repair: electrical, ohm meter, pickup coil

Question
My son-in-law has a 1987 chev blaser 4x4 with 2.8L engine, we found a wire from the distributor to the coil fried, he replased the wire and we still do not have spark from the spark plug when we attempt to see if spark was there when we put it up against the body. Do you have any ideas what he may have burnt out?

Answer
Well, You have several possible faults:

1. the coil may be faulty and will require some extensive testing using an OHM meter.

2. he ignition module may be faulty and will require some extensive testing using an OHM meter.

3. The PICKUP coil within the distributor may be faulty and will require some extensive testing using an OHM meter.

4. The ELECTRONIC SPARK CONTROL MODULE mounted on the firewall just behind the IGNITION coil may be faulty and will require some extensive testing using an OHM meter.

depending upon your mechnical knowledge and ability to PROPERLY use and READ a digital OHM METER will depend upon IF you can make these required test procedures and reapir the vehicle yourself or have a facility perform the tests and repair the vehicle.

IF you can USE and READ a DIGITAL OHM METER, I can walk you thru the test procedures and provide pictures of the components being tested, But, You will have to contact me at:

in order for me to e-mail pictures and the procedures required.
