Chevrolet Repair: 1997 chevy g1500 5.7L...cold starting prob, flood mode, hi john

Question
van has trouble starting when cold...I can always get it started by waiting a few minutes between cranks...sometimes this takes 45 minutes and who's got 45 minutes before work in the morning? I changed everything I could think of that had to do with spark. it does seem to flood, as I can smell gas after it does start. Any ideas ?

Answer
Hi John,
Try getting in and don't pump, but press and hold the gas pedal all the way against the floor while you crank it. That should place it in "clear flood" mode, and not inject any gas.
You might need to run some injector cleaner through it. May be some injectors dribbling, rather than spraying.Van
