I have a 1992 Chevy Astro Van. The right side window will power up but not down. I have replaced both the motor and switch to no avail. While having the motor out of door I checked to make sure it worked by applying power and ground to alternate sides of motor. It works fine. After putting switch in place and testing, I found that when pressing "down" side if window switch that power is applied to both sides of motor, instead of switching power and ground . This confuses the motor and it is impossible for it to turn. The "up" side of switch works just fine. Any ideas ?

Hello Tommy,
The drivers switch is very possibly the culprit. It carries all the load, before the passengers switch even becomes involved.
I would guess that the one side of the drivers switch isn't making contact to ground, and then it could show voltage on both sides at the passengers door.

Hi Van,
Driver side switch has been replaced with a new one. Have disconnected it to see if that has any effect on passenger side operatrion. It does not have any effect.

Answer
Hi Tommy,
I would check the connectors for making contact on the switches, and even the wires.
There is just going to be a poor connection somewhere.
I doubt it is at the ground connection in the harness, or it wouldn't work in either direction.
