Chevrolet Repair: Frozen U-Joint on 99 Silverado Z71, chevy silverado, silverado z71

Question
I have a 1999 Chevy Silverado Z71 (98,000 miles) that is making a squeaking sound while driving(1 - 35 mph or so)but it goes away if I shift into neutral. I believe it is my rear U-joint. What would you consider a fair cost to have it fixed? I've been told that on some newer trucks they have a non-repairable u-joint and that in this case the whole drive shaft would have to be replaced? Any thoughts or concerns I should be aware of? THANKS!

Answer
Hello Greg,
There may be vehicles with a driveshaft like that, but I haven't seen one, nor for that matter, even heard of one yet.
I sincerely doubt your Chevy has one.
I would expect the parts to list for about $20. each, and I would replace both of them.
About two hours labor.
