Chevrolet Repair: 97 S10 no start, crankshaft sensor, crank sensor

Question
Van, I am working on a 97 S10 Blazer 4.3W e/EDI ignition that will not start and has no spark while cranking. I am testing for spark at the coil with a calibrated spark tester. With the key ON it will spark while passing a screwdriver across the crank sensor. This gives me the impression that the sensor, coil, & module are OK. With the key still ON I have 12V to the crank sensor but it drops to 1V while cranking. Not sure if this is normal and have no wiring diagram that shows the sensor in it... Hoping you have a soultion to my problem and thank you for any help you can offer.

Answer
Hey, Rich,
From what you said the other day, it sounded like you could crank the engine, but it had no spark.
Now, with the "jumped across the starter" comment, that brings up another question.
If you can crank the engine with the switch, meaning you turn the switch and the engine rotates but doesn't start, that is what I was talking about.
But if you turn your key and the engine doesn't rotate, and the voltage at the crankshaft sensor drops to 1 volt, I would look more toward the ignition switch as the problem.

Good luck,
Van
