Chevrolet Repair: check eng light - loss of power, mixture control, direstion

I have a 1986 El Camino 305 v8, 4 barrel card

Engine Light comes on and engine losses power, acts like choke is malfunctioning. but happens  even after eng is warm. I can accerlerate and the eng will run normal for 5 minutes then light comes on again. loss of power again.

I replaced the EGR valve, air filters etc. no change. What's wrong?

Hi Don, The first thing you need to do is get the code. This should lead you in the right direstion to repair the car. Common problems with this are the mixture control solenoid and the needle jets that it controls. The solenoid will go bad and the needles get stuck in the down position causing a lean run condition. You might want to look for a reman carb to install on this one.
