Chevrolet Repair: Battery Drain, jumper cables, battery drain

Question
We had a problem with the battery in our 1995 4X4, where the top (inner?) post broke off.  The mechanic did a quick fix and it's now completely dead.  My husband bought a new battery, installed it, truck started right up and drove it for a while.  About an hour later, we went to start it up and it was dead.
What could be the cause of the drain from the battery?  Silly question, but for us mechanically UNinclined.....
Thank You.

Answer
Hello Patty,
I wish I knew what the "Quick Fix" consisted of.
Also, does that truck not have side post battery?

If you installed a new battery, and it was truely dead in one hour, there had to be a major current draw, such as the headlights on.
Connect some jumper cables and see what springs to life immediately.
Another possibility is the connections being loose or corroded.

I will send a link to a battery drain locator chart.
