Chevrolet Repair: Transmission Parts, chevy impala, jimmy mccain


Question
I have a 2001 Chevy Impala LS, The transmission was surging between second and third gears, they advised me that they would have to replace both tss.shifter sylnoyds and the valve body,I know what the TSS is but what is the valve body? Please reply, Jimmy McCain

Hi Jimmy, The valve body is the part that contains all the shift solenoids and shift valves. This part is the main brain for the transmission. Your problem might just be a bad pressure control solenoid. This solenoid goes bad often. It controls the line pressure in the trans, when the line pressure is too low the trans will shift badly. This part can cause this happen. If they do a pressure test on the trans they can see if it is working correctly. If it isn't working right then they should just replace that part.
