Chevrolet Repair: ignition problem, chevy k1500, ecm

Question
i have a 1993 chevy k1500 recently put a new engine in. set the timing it ran fine. i let it sit for a couple of days went to start it and it idle and the died.so i disconnect the est timing and started it and ran fine.as soon as i connect it back cycle the igntion and try again it dies.i replaced the the ignition module and the ecm. still the the same.i kind of leaning towards the iac. but dont know how that would affect the igintion. i also have a code 42 igntion control circiut says check grounds and wires if good replace ecm.check hareness from igntion control module seems fine. any ideas. david

Answer
Hi David,  The code 42 is from disconnecting the timing connector. The engine running with the timing connector open should mean that your pick up coil is no good. But with this year truck I would get a mainshaft too. You could just buy a reman dist and put it in, this would be cheaper.
