Chevrolet Repair: Leaking rear axle seal, rear axle seal, size blazer

Question
hey mark,

i've got a '93 K5 full-size blazer and the right rear axle seal is leaking.  i plan to replace both of the seals in the rear, but wanted to check with someone to see if there's anything i need to know regarding taking the spider gears apart or if there's anything unexpected i should know about.  unfortunately, the crappy manual i have doesn't have torque settings for putting the gears back together or the differential plate so if happen to know what these i'd appreciate.  additionally, do i have to mess with the drum brakes to get the axle out? it doesn't look like it but as with the other questions above i wanted to know what i'm getting into before i take everything apart.

thanks in advance for your help,  lance

Answer
Hi Lance, This is a some what easy job. Remove the brake drums, remove the rear diff cover, remove the lock bolt which has a 5/16 head. Now slide the center pin out. With out turning the axles push them in torward the center of the diff to release the (C) clips or retainers for the axles. Now just remove the axles and install the new seals.

Let me know how you make out

Mark
