Chevrolet Repair: 97 Chevy Malibu, chevy malibu, clock spring

Question
My airbag warning lite is on and my cruise control no longer works. i understand that it most likely is a broken clock spring. is this something fairly easy to repair? could i do it myself or take it to a shop? and any ideas of how much it could be to fix?
thanks so much.

Answer
Hello, To replace the clock spring you need to remove the steering. This really isn't that hard. Then you can install a new clock spring. The wire that goes down through the column might give you a little problem but with a small piece of steel wire you can get it routed down. As far as cost I really have no idea. If that is the problem the light will go off and a code will be stored but it will all work ok.

Hope this helps           Mark
