Chevrolet Repair: fuel tank sending unit, buick park avenue, fuel tank sending unit

Question
I think you could probably answer this question with your knowledge of cars. I have a 1983 Buick Park Avenue and the fuel gage doesn't work. It just sits on "E" all the time. I was told to check the ground and it was fine so I'm thinking that it is the fuel tank sending unit. Is repairing that as simple as dropping the tank and putting in a new one? Or are there other things involved in the repair? Thanks.

Answer
Shannon, A quick check, disconnect the fuel sender at the back of the car, should be a coupler leading to tank unit, with key "on", gauge should go way past full, if not, there's a problem of power to gauge or getting back to the tank unit. I'm sure you already checked the fuse, right? Hope this helps!
