Chevrolet Repair: flywheel for chevy van, chevy van, excessive wear

Question
Hi, I am getting ready to replace the flywheel in my Chevy School Bus.  (same chassis as a normal van I'm assuming)  Should I just replace the thing or could there be something out of alignment that is causing it to malfunction in the first place?  Thanks a lot

Joe

Answer
Hi Joe,
I am at a loss to understand how it is malfunctioning.
The starter not engaging?
Or if a standard transmission, the clutch having a problem?
Or, if an automatic transmission, it flexing and hitting the block, and making noise?
If it is the teeth wearing out, and the starter having excessive wear, or not engaging, there are shim kits for the starter to adjust it where there is more room.
Let me know if it is one of the other problems, or something else, even.
