Chevrolet Repair: Chevy Transmissions, chevy malibu, gm transmission

Question
I have a blown engine in my 1998 Chevy Malibu (3.1 liter engine).  I'm questioning whether to put a rebuilt engine in but was concerned with the transmission.  I'd hate to spend $1800 for the engine and then need to replace the tranny.  Can you pleased advise on the GM transmission regarding life expectancy.  The engine had 98000 miles.  Please advise.

Answer
well each trany is differnet but if your going for a new engine id go with the new tranny as well. but if your after a used engine id keep the orginal and refurbish it, replace seals and filters and clean it. but as for what you want to do is up to you, life excpecantcy? it ranges from 1 day to the car or vehicle its in rots away. it is really up to usage and wear and tear.
