Chevrolet Repair: air con removal, chev cavalier, defroster

Question
2.2l chev engine in a 1993 chev. cavalier. I want to remove air con. and need to know pitfalls. The belt will now have one less pulley so I need a belt from a non air con engine .Am I correct? What about when car is in defrost mode? The idle used to pick up as it seemed the air con was on in defrost.I have had low air flow and not much heat and I want to remove the air con element from the system.

Answer
Hi Clint, If the a/c compressor bearing is ok and not causing a problem then you should just leave it there with no freon in the system. This way you won't have to mess around with a new belt and stuff. You should take out the evaporator core and wash off the dirt and stuff that has built up on it so you will have goood air flow through it. I'm not sure if you can just leave it out and still have all the heater and defroster modes work ok.
