Chevrolet Repair: car problems, chevy cavalier, cigarette lighter

Question
i have a 1999 chevy cavalier 2.4 4 cyl 66800 miles. manual 5sp. about 2 months ago I noticed that my car would kind of hesitate or cut in and out as i was shifting up. lately i've noticed when i'm doing 55 and start going up a hill or let off the gas it starts to kinda shimmy If i down shift to 4th gear it still does it so i down shift to 3rd and i regain power but it seems that i'm in to low of gear. it happens also when i start from a stop sign as i shift up it shakes like its cutting in and out til i get it to 4th or 5th gear. als my cigarette lighter went out . i think from holding it in too long. i checked the fuse it is 20 amp it was blown i tried to replace it and as soon as i touched the new fuse to the place it is suppose to go it sparked and instantly blew

Answer
Hi Ken, There are a couple of things that might the problem on the skipping. The ignition module, coils or the part the coils mount to. The only way to tell is to replace the part and hope that you guessed right. I would disconnect the lighter plug then try to put a fuse in.If it doesn't blow now replace the lighter housing. If it does, you now need to get a diagram of the wiring to see what all is in that circuit so you can locate the problem.
