Chevrolet Repair: Is starter going bad, cylinoid, chevy celebrity

Question
89 chevy celebrity. 4 cy 4door. 130,000 miles. oil change february 2004, transmission flush februar 2004. inspection april 2004. she was in very good condition when i received about 2 years ago. 89,000 miles then, elder woman who went into a home and never drove it. the only thing i use the car for is to work and home. no entertainment, etc. that is 60 miles per day.now she is in shop every month. every day if i had the money. she is 3 months into a tune. two questions. car kept cutting off if i take my foot of the gas at a stop light and when i idle it ran VERY rugged. it would only do it every now and then so my husband would think i was imagining things. then it did it everyday.  chevy dealership put on a machine and replace a computer chip then they said it needed a egr? valve, which was causing it to cut off. until i could come back, repair shop disconnected egr valve so the car would not cut off. it worked. egr valve replaced after one month. car ran good for about two days then MILD ruggedness came back. my question is by running without the egr valve for a month would this have messed up my tune up from 3 months prior. (i am just wishing). MAIN question. now after 3 weeks, when i start my car, i can tell with each start up (over the last two weeks) the car is not wanting to crank, sounds like the battery is going dead and each day it is getting worse and worse. it seems as if i have to pump the gas quickly in order for it to start. in the event it was the battery, my husband switched out the battery but that was not it. He says it is the cylinoid the thing on top of the starter. I am planning to go to a shop saturday. does this sound like a cylinoid problem? your help will be greatly appreciated. i hope i answered all your requirements. i am at work so i had to skim quickly over your rules. thanks. If i can only ask one question at a time. please answer the cylinoid one.

Answer
whew!!! ok first, the erg valve might have set a bad computer code but that is easliy reset. so that is no biggie. the rough idle and that could be fuel related hmm... as for the starter issue, that sound very much like the starter cylinoid, spelled solenoind. but oh well, anyhow. yes that can get expenive but getting a rebuilt one is cheap and some shope take the old ones in on trade so that reduces cost. but pumping the gas in order to get it to start hmmmm... feel free to ask me as many questions as ya like.... lol  let see here... was it a new egr or a used one?? is it fuel injected or carborator?  bt as for the starter issue, if is sounds like the battery is going dead, try this turn the key forward but not far enough to start the engine, turn on the windsheild wipers, the should go no prob, if they are slow or sluggish then i can bet your altenator is going not the starter. the alt. juices the battery from running it so the battery doesnt gett drained. but if its bad the battery could be lacking a good charge, but the wiper test is free and easy to determine that. i would have them go over it witha  fine tooth comb and get an estimate bfore they do any more work to it.. hope that helps some...
