Chevrolet Repair: Chevy speedometer/odomemter, chevy caprice classic, chevy caprice

Question
Mark I have an 1991 chevy caprice classic.
The speedometer, odometer and trip odometer are not working. The cruse does work.
This was my father-in-laws car and it has sat for 3 years in Fl.,the odometer reads 49812,miles.The car is in good+ shape.

Hi Chuck, I can't remember how this speedo works, cable or electronic. If there is a cable then I would start there. Some cars used a transducer to work the cruise control and I don't know what year they stopped. Look under the hood and if there is a unit mounted on the drivers inner fender well then you have a transducer. You want to check the cable coming out of this because it goes to the speedo head. If it doesn't have this then the cluster itself must be bad. Sorry I can't be positive on this.    Mark
