Question
I have an electrical problem with my car. I started it in the morning to go to work and when I went to go to lunch it did not start. I found a ground wire that had got hot and melted I replaced the wire jumped the car and it started I let it run for a few min,and shut it off and the wire I replaced started to melt the only time there is power to the ground is after you try to start the car right now it will not start I unhoked the alt. and the short is still there don't know what to do!

Answer
Hi Keith, Your problem is with the neg battery cable. It either has a bad connection at the engine/transmission or is no good. The small wire that keeps melting is only for the body ground. When you try to start the engine the starter needs a lot amps and this is done through the large battery cable. When this large cable isn't good then the amps go through what ever ground path there is. Replace the neg ground cable from the battery to the engine and you'll repair your problem.
