Chevrolet Repair: Running Hot, nissan xterra, chevy cavalier

Question
My girlfriend just bought a 97 chevy cavalier, do you know what the normal running temp is cause the temp reading is at about half way.  This seems to be running hot.  Any advice on how to diagnose what might be causing it to run hot besides the thermostat sticking.

A lot of late models run in the middle.  My 03 Nissan Xterra does, and it is not hot.  As long as it does not go above halfway, I think it is ok.  You may replace the stat with a lower temp rating one, but it will of course take longer for the car to heat up.  Good luck on it, and if I can help you in any other way, please do not hesistate to ask.
