Chrysler Repair: no starter: 06 Sebring

Question
Hi Roland, I have a 2006 Chrysler Sebring convertible GLX with a V6.  Car has been running fine.  I parked it last night and today it won't do anything.  I tried jump starting it, still nothing.  I have headlights but no radio and no wipers.  I have tried moving the starter relay fuses around and that gave me dash lights which I didn't have originally.  I also tried moving the shift lever but still nothing. I am confused and very frustrated.

Answer
Hi Margaret,
You didn't describe whether you changed around the fuses both in the box in the engine compartment and the box behind the left end cap of the dash, or just one or the other.
I would suggest  that you look closely at all the fuses to identify which are good and which are blown. There would an "open" in the metal wire inside the fuse if it is blown. If you can recall where the blown fuses were before you moved them around that would be helpful.  Did you only exchange fuses that had the same amp rating (A), or could they now be mixed up?
Fuse 8 (20 amp) in the fuse box in the engine compartment has to be good for the starter motor relay to be activated so check that one out now. It slso powers a couple of other sections of the ignition switch so if it was blown that would also be consistent with your initial description of the problem.
When you try to start it, locate the starter relay and feel/listen for whether it clicks or not and let me know (have a helper operate the key while you listen/touch the relay to see if it is clicking or not. When you first turn the key to "run" position do you hear the fuel pump hum for about second and then stop. It is inside the fuel tank, and that would be normal. If you don't hear it do that then you do have a blown fuse #8 in the engine compartment box.
Relax, I am sure we can get to the bottom of this problem.
Please give me answers to my questions as best you can.
Thanks.
Roland
