Chrysler Repair: 97 LHS: shuts down quickly

Question
QUESTION: I have a 1997 Chrysler LHS that when you start the car it only runs for 30 seconds then shuts down.Try to restart then it only runs for 3 seconds at a time.I been to 4 mechanics shops and they don't have a clue. I hope you can help. Thanks

ANSWER: Hi Robert,
The best thing to do is get a fault code readout which is a self-diagnostic capability. '97 was a transition year so the method of readout may be one way or the other:
1.Turn the ignition switch "on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the odometer window of the speedometer to see if the mileage reading is replaced by a 4-digit number preceded by a P. If so let me know the number.
2. Otherwise, repeat the key switching process but watch the 'check engine' light which remains "on" to see it begin to flash, pause, flash, etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause. Then repeat the process to be sure of an accurate set of flash counts and tell me those in the order of appearance.
Either way, getting a 4-digit number or set of flash counts will give a clue as to what is going wrong.

QUESTION: I have my own scanner and there are no codes coming up at all.

ANSWER: Does your scanner show any response?

Nonetheless, try the ignition switch approach as your scanner may not be getting power from the socket.

If we can't get any fault code readout then you will need to check for the loss of spark, the loss of fuel injection, or a problem with the mixture. But a fault code should be produced with this sort of history.

QUESTION: All the scanner said is 0 codes The code reader is working powers up at the socket It checks the evaporation system, oxygen system, oxygen heatersensor, egr monitor there are no codes coming up.

Answer
Did you try the ignition switch method of getting codes?
Otherwise, you will need to check for spark and for fuel pump action/presence of unburned fuel on the spark plugs or not; finally have a helper crank it to start while you listen to see if the fuel pump continues to run (inside the fuel tank) while the engine is running briefly and if it stopped just before the engine dies.
The only device that can cause the engine to stop without leaving a fault code is the exhaust gas recirculation valve which may be stuck slightly ajar which leans of the mixture too much. So find that, and spray WD-40 on the valve stem where it enters the valve body. Then move the stem back and forth using the tip of a screwdriver in the slot of the stem. If you can't find the valve tell me which engine you have.
