Chrysler Repair: Infinity radio: 99 Sebring

Question
QUESTION: I have a 1999 Chrysler Sebring convertible. The radio is working, but no sound comes out of the speakers. I have taken out the speaker and tried it in another car and it works. I also tried the radio in another car, and it also works. The radio keeps the correct time and the stations change correctly. I have checked all the fuses but found no problem there. Any ideas?

ANSWER: Hi Diane,
Is this the standard radio system or the "Infinity" deluxe system which has a separate amplifies under the passenger seat? That amplifier may be the cause if it isn't working also.
Is the other car you tried also a Sebring and does it have the same sort of 'system'.
Did you try using the other car's radio in your car? Are both cars Sebring's?
Once I know more I can tell you what to try.

QUESTION: The radio system in both cars is the Infinity system. I tried changing the radios around and doesn't make any difference. Still no sound. They are both Sebrings. Thanks for your info.

Answer
Hi Diane,
When you changed the radios did you do both the radio's control unit AND the separate amplifier unit located under the passenger seat? That amplifier of course has to work to get sound so if you didn't change it out but only the main unit in the dash then I would suspect that the amplifier is the problem. Check fuses 5 and 14 in the panel behind the left end-cap of the dash. Then try switching the amplifier from the working system with the one in the non-working system. If that has been done, then there are some electrical tests you can do to determine where there is a wiring problem.
