Chrysler Repair: Starter removal: 06 300 2,7L

Hello Roland,
I see a previous entry where you helped with a similar situation as mine.
I am replacing the starter on my 2006 chrysler 300 base model with 2.7 v6.
My Haynes manual says to separate the steering shaft at the pinch bolt, but then the book refers my to another section that involves removing the steering wheel and column.
I also read online forums where guys disconnect the shaft from the steering gear.
what is your advice?

Hi John,
Look along the steering shaft from the gear end and the first connection is a bolt that holds two parts of the intermediated shaft together. Remove that bolt and then you can separate the shaft which allows you to move the pieces apart to allow a pathway for the starter motor to come out. Then disconnect the mounting bolts and wiring from the starter. Move it forward and down. Work it up around the exhaust, then past the opening created by splitting the shaft.
The install is the reverse pathway.
Notice there is a plastic dust shield on the end of the starter motor which you will want to reinstall just at the point where you are about to mount it back on the motor.
