QuestionQUESTION: We have no air blowing from the heater. The ATC is the automatic type. A local mechanic says he replaced the fan motor and "resistor", says there was a major backorder on the ATC, gave us a fair deal on the work he had done, and we opted to not invest further money into the car. The ATC was completely dark and would not respond to the "hit it with your fist" test we saw on the Internet. As winter came on we ordered a recondtioned ATC from Ebay and installed it. The ATC now lights but there is still no fan. We did the diagnostic test and we get error codes 26 & 36. We will check fuses 7, 14, 16, 17, 18, 19 as per your previous instructions to to others. We will also disconnect the negetive battery terminal for 10 minutes to resent the BCM. (The two previous measures have not yet been taken) Now to the questions: Do the error codes automatically clear once the problem is fixed or does the ATC need to be reset? (Does the ATC store error codes?)Does the BCM need to be reset once a problem is fixed or will it clear by itself? Is the ATC thermister from error code 26 and the "fan resistor" that the mechanic replaced likely the same componant, or are these likly two different things? Thanks!

Also check fuse 23 which is the power for the blower.
I believe the best way to clear the codes is to disconnect the battery for a few minutes. That usually cancels present codes as I don't know for sure if fixing the problem cancels the codes. Then see if thinks are working.
If not then do another diagnostic.
The bcm will clear itself also when the battery is disconnected.
No the thermistor is part of the ATC control, and ideally that should not be a problem with the reconditioned unit. The blower power item that was replaced is different and is actually called the blower motor power module (in the conventional unit it is called the blower motor resistor block).
