Chrysler Repair: 2008 Chrysler Town and Country Sliding Door Handle Replacement

Question
QUESTION: Hi, with all the problems I've been having with my T&C lately I decided that I would be better served financially to try and repair some of the problems myself. The passenger side rear sliding door handle has broken off and I wanted to replace it. I have the color matched door handle from the dealer.

I've removed the rear panel and disconnected the wires to windows. I'm looking at the panel inside now and it looks like I have some bolts and some hex screws. I'm assuming that I need to remove those but I was hoping that I didn't have to remove them all.

Any suggestions or pointing to instructions would be great.

Thanks for the help

Josh

ANSWER: Hi Josh,
So far I have checked the '06 manual because it is more accessible, but I can also check the '08. My question is: is this handle mounted on the forward edge of the door and does it appear to be purely mechanical in its attachments? If so, I can send you a couple of pages from the '06 manual if you will tell me your email address. But don't use the @ symbol, instead use "at" or it will be erased automatically. In the meantime I' check the '08 manual.

QUESTION: It's located on the forward edge of the door. I believe the 08 has a different door than the 06.

ANSWER: This '08 manual is impossible for it has no index. I only found a section about removing the cable attached to the external door handle. It that would be helpful I can copy and attach that to an email as explained.

QUESTION: Thanks for the help. I actually figured it out without taking off the panel. I was able to fit my hand through the hole. Remove the cable from the handle. Use a ratchet to remove the screws and then put on the new handle and reassemble.

Another question though. Where can I get a hold of the 2008 repair manual? I have a feeling I'm going to have some more problems with this in the future.

Thanks

Answer
Hi Josh,
Good to learn that you could do the repair.
I believe the manuals are only on CD. Chrysler has a website called TechAuthority.com but the prices are high plus extra charges for shipping and handling. By chance I bought a CD on eBay from someone who copies the manuals and sells them for around $10. Because of a long delay in shipment he actually sent me a second copy. I would be pleased to let you have that extra one. It is all there, and the individual chapters can be selected, but there is no complete topic index so you have to do a bit of searching in each chapter to find what you need.
Let me know your mailing address and I will send to you.
Thanks for the rating and nomination. You can do both again, and that 'counts' toward the recognition.
Thanks,
Roland
