Chrysler Repair: 1998 Chrysler Sebring 2.5l v-6 no spark/no start, chrysler sebring, secondary location

Question
QUESTION: Roland,
I will go back and check the oscilating voltage for the crannk sensor and the 5vdc on pin 2 of the 6 pin connector.

I'm not sure if I really ever had spark, I guess I just assumed I did since the engine tried to start once or twice and backfired once. I wasnt grounding the threads, I was grounding the bottom of the plug. I will go back and check for spark via grounding of the threads.

Rotor is brand new. Im not sure what you mean by "is it patent between the rotor button and the tip"

Distributor cap: also brand new and not cracked

Distributor wires: I believe they are in the correct order, but I will go abck and double check

Distributor coils: Im not sure what or where this is. Where do i test for resistance? Across certain pins or terminals? Im also unsure about the secondary, location and pins/terminals?

I have no issue rating/nominating you for every answer, except I am not able to ask follow up questions once I rate/nominate.

Thanks for all your help. I am looking forward to getting this vehicle running again...

Mike

ANSWER: The primary winding is measured between pins 5 and 6 of the 6-pin socket at the distributor. The secondary would be between pin 5 and the high tension output that goes to the distributor cap rotor button.
There is a limit on the number of follow-ups for each question but doing a rating/nomination doesn't prevent you from using all the follow-up opportunities. So don' let that stand in your way!.
If you did get spark/backfire earlier then you did have spark at that point.

QUESTION: Roland
i have been really busy and not had a chance to work on the car. I will get some time this evening when I get home from work. I will check the oscillating voltage and the 5vdc on pin 2. Ill let you know what I find.

Mike

ANSWER: Thanks for the update, Mike, I'll wait to hear from you.

QUESTION: Roland,
So here is what I found,

1. on pin one (orange/white) I have 5vdc with the key in the on/run position.

2. when I place the meter leads on pins 1 and 3 I get 5vdc, but it does not oscillate down to 0.3vdc. I am wondering if my meter is not sensitive enough? It is a fluke T5-600. I do have a fluke 87 series at another location that I can bring home and try.

Does this mean that the camshaft position sensor is bad?

Mike

Answer
Hi Mike,
I assume that you are rotating the engine by hand when looking for the oscillation from 5 to 0.3. If so, and it doesn't, then the camshaft sensor in the distributor is bad. I can't recall if this is a new distributor or not. If so, then you got a defective distributor, otherwise the usual 'fix' for a used distributor is to replace it entirely because it is difficult to buy just the sensor. Some people have had success buying it from Japan.
If you were just running engine via the starter motor then the Fluke is not going to 'see' the pulsing. So do it by hand.
Feel free to do a rating and nomination for me.
Thanks,
Roland
